Change the resolution, the frame, or the stretch — never black bars
To resize a video, upload it, pick a target resolution (1080p, 720p, 480p or 360p) or a frame like 9:16, 1:1 or 16:9, and export — Klipa never adds black bars, filling any extra space with a blurred background, a subject-tracked crop, or an adjustable stretch instead. It works free, online, with no software to install.
Resize or compress? Pick the right tool first
If your video already has the right shape but is simply too heavy to upload or send, you don't need to resize it — you need to compress it. Resizing changes width and height (and can lighten the file as a side effect, without targeting it directly); our video compressor reduces file size directly, at the same resolution, with no watermark.
Three ways to fill a different frame
When your video's shape doesn't match the target, Klipa offers three honest options instead of guessing for you: Fit keeps the whole picture visible on a blurred background (nothing cropped, nothing distorted); Fill lets an AI track the main subject and crop only the excess edges, recommended for social feeds; Stretch distorts the frame on purpose — useful to correct footage that already looks squished, or for the deliberately stretched, stylized look some edits go for.
Resizing, reframing, and enlarging: three different jobs
Resizing changes the size of the whole picture; reframing (our AI reframe tool) changes what's inside the frame, which is what turns a horizontal video into a vertical one. And picking a resolution above your source doesn't invent missing detail: keeping the "Original" shape, Klipa only ever scales down or keeps your video at its native size — a genuinely bigger, sharper video has to be filmed or exported at that resolution to begin with.
What the tool produces

How to resize a video in 3 steps
Upload your video
Drop your file (MP4, MOV, AVI, MKV or WebM, up to 2 GB) or pick it from your device — no account needed to start.
Pick a frame, resolution, and fit method
Choose a target ratio (9:16, 1:1, 16:9, 4:5, or your own width × height in pixels), a resolution (1080p down to 360p), and how to fill any leftover space: blurred background, AI-tracked crop, or an adjustable stretch.
Preview, then download
Download the resized video, delivered clean, with no logo, ready to publish on the platform you're targeting.
Why resize your videos with Klipa?
No black bars, ever
Every mismatched frame gets a blurred background, an AI-tracked crop, or an adjustable stretch — never an ugly black letterbox.
AI keeps your subject in frame
When you crop to a new shape, the same AI tracking engine that powers our Clips and Video-to-Shorts tools keeps the main subject centered automatically, never cut off.
Real resolution control
Pick 1080p, 720p, 480p or 360p, or type an exact width and height — Klipa never invents detail by upscaling past your source.
No software, done in seconds
Everything runs online in your browser: upload, adjust, download. Nothing to install, no account required to start.
When to resize a video
Resize a 4K video to 1080p
4K is overkill for most online uses: resizing to 1080p or 720p lightens the file with no visible loss on a phone or laptop screen.
Fix a stretched or squished video
Footage exported at the wrong ratio can look squeezed or elongated. Klipa's adjustable stretch corrects width and height independently until the picture looks right again — no re-export from the original editor needed.
Stretch a video on purpose
Some edits use a deliberately stretched, distorted look — filler clips, comedic edits, a stylistic choice. Set the stretch anywhere from 50% to 150% independently on each axis and preview the result live before exporting.
Multi-format video ads
Ad campaigns often require the same creative in multiple dimensions: 9:16 for Stories, 1:1 for feed placements, 16:9 for YouTube pre-rolls. Resize your ad once for each placement instead of re-exporting from your editor. Pair it with automatic subtitles so your message is clear even with sound off.
Optimizing for mobile screens
Most video today gets watched on a phone screen, not a desktop monitor. Resize your videos to 720p or 480p for faster loading on mobile connections without a noticeable quality drop. After resizing, compress the file to shave off even more bytes and deliver a smooth viewing experience.

Resizing a video — frequently asked questions
How do I resize a video online for free?
Upload your video (MP4, MOV, AVI, MKV or WebM, up to 2 GB), choose a target resolution or aspect ratio, and export. Klipa runs entirely online, needs no account to start, and no software to install — the resized file downloads in seconds, ready to publish or send.
Does resizing a video distort it?
Not unless you choose to. Fit keeps the whole picture on a blurred background, and Fill uses AI to crop around your subject — both keep proportions intact. Stretch is the only mode that deliberately distorts the frame, and it's there on purpose: to fix already-squished footage or for a stylized stretched effect.
Which resolutions and sizes can I resize a video to?
Choose 1080p, 720p, 480p or 360p on any aspect ratio (9:16, 1:1, 16:9, 4:5, or your source shape), or enter an exact width and height in pixels for a custom size. The live preview shows the final frame before you export, so there's no guesswork.
What's the difference between resizing and stretching a video?
Resizing changes a video's overall dimensions while keeping it undistorted, using a blurred background or an AI-tracked crop to fill any gap. Stretching is different: it deliberately squeezes or elongates the picture from 50% to 150% on each axis independently, either to correct footage exported at the wrong ratio, or for an intentionally distorted, stylized look.
I just want a smaller file — do I need to resize my video?
Not necessarily. Resizing lowers file size mostly as a side effect of a smaller resolution. If your video's dimensions are already fine and it's simply too heavy to upload or send, use our video compressor instead — it shrinks the file at the same resolution, with no watermark.
Can resizing make my video bigger or higher resolution?
Resizing can output a larger frame, but it can't invent detail that isn't there — scaling past your source resolution just stretches existing pixels and looks softer. Keeping the "Original" shape and only changing resolution never upscales: Klipa keeps your video at its native size or smaller, so quality stays intact.
Which video formats does the resizer accept?
MP4, MOV, AVI, MKV and WebM are all accepted, with files up to 2 GB. Whatever you upload, the resized video exports as a clean MP4 — the format every platform and player accepts — so there's no extra conversion step before you publish or send it.
Does the resized video keep a watermark?
While you have credits they are spent and the resized video comes back clean, with no Klipa logo. Once you run out, the resize still runs and the result carries the Klipa logo. The number of resizes itself is never limited.
Do I need an account to resize a video?
No: resizing works without an account and with no limit on how many videos you run. While you have credits they are spent and the file comes back clean; once you run out, the job still runs and the result carries the Klipa logo — creating a free account gives you credits to start with.
What's the difference between resizing and reframing a video?
Resizing changes the size of the whole picture while leaving its content untouched. Reframing changes what's inside the frame — it's what you need to turn a horizontal video into a vertical one for TikTok or Reels; try our AI reframing tool for that instead.
What Creators Say
The right size, no distortion
Resizing a video online takes seconds: pick a resolution and a frame, choose how to fill the gaps — blurred background, AI-tracked crop, or an adjustable stretch — and export with no black bars. Need a smaller file at the same size instead? Use our compressor. Need a different frame, not just a different size? Try AI reframing.
